Alcorn County is located in the north-eastern portion of Mississippi. Alcorn County was formed in 1870 and was named for Governor James L. Alcorn.
The county seat is Corinth, which was the location for the Siege of Corinth, an early campaign of the American Civil War. Other Alcorn County communities include: Farmington, Glen, Rienzi, Kossuth, Jacinto, and Wenasoga. In it's first census in 1870 there were 10,431 residents listed. In the last federal census in 2000 the population was 34,558.
